Travis Hunter is in his prime. After a few weeks away nursing an injury, the Colorado Buffaloes star returned to the field with a bang and couldn't help but share his happiness on social media with an explosive comment that earned him praise from his fans, starting with his girlfriend, Leanna Lenee.
Hunter and the Buffaloes suffered a major scare three weeks ago when the player injured his shoulder against Kansas State. The wide receiver/safety dragged the injury into the game against Arizona, which made many analysts question whether he could still aspire to the Heisman Trophy.
Hunter himself cleared up those doubts a week later by leading Colorado to a resounding 34-23 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats. The player's nine receptions, 153 yards, and one touchdown put him back in the Heisman conversation.
As expected, Hunter is happy and did not hesitate to transmit his euphoria through his Instagram account, where his celebratory post has accumulated more than 222,000 likes and more than 1,300 comments so far.
The return of the HE12MAN
In a moment of vanity after the victory over Cincinnati, Hunter took to his social media to exclaim, "I'm Making Records Not Chasing Them." The comment accompanied a photo of Travis contemplating the scoreboard after Saturday's game.
The image and the message immediately caught the attention of his followers, who were quick to shower him with praise. However, the reaction that made Hunter the happiest was that of his fiancée, who simply responded, "HIM!" accompanied by two heart-eyed emojis.
In a similar tone, another user commented, "Travis is HIM!" followed by one more who exclaimed, "Tell'em 12. They not ready for that combo, tho." Others took advantage of the pun between Hunter's jersey number and the word Heisman, posting things like "HE12MAN," or "HE12MAN hunter."
What's next for Hunter and the Buffaloes
With a 6-2 record, 4-1 in the Big 12, Colorado secured a bowl berth. However, head coach Deion Sanders has his sights set much farther ahead, specifically on the NCAA playoffs.
To do that, they must first overcome his final four obstacles of the regular season: the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Utah Utes, the Kansas Jayhawks, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. A couple more wins would put the Buffaloes squarely in the playoffs and Hunter with one hand on the Heisman.
