A new trend may be on the horizon in the football world, thanks to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
During the Eagles' impressive 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Hurts encountered a minor wardrobe malfunction in the fourth quarter when his left shoe flew off after a hit out of bounds.
With the knot on his shoe tied so tightly that he couldn't get it back on, Hurts found an unconventional solution: he wore mismatched cleats for the rest of the game.
Reflecting on the incident after the game, Hurts made clear why he acted so quickly.
"That was a first. I hate that we had to burn a timeout on that one. I had a double-knot. Usually, when I wear low-top Air Jordans, I tie them up really tight for ankle support. I had to go with Jalen two-shoes for a bit. We got some points, so that was cool," Hurts admitted.
In a lighthearted twist, Hurts sported a green Air Jordan on his right foot and a white Air Jordan on his left, pulling off the mismatched look effortlessly.
While Hurts was unfazed by his unconventional footwear, the Eagles' equipment manager was left feeling anxious about the timeout lost due to the shoe mishap.
"I talked to the equipment guy afterward," Hurts shared.
"This is something that's small, but no one thinks about how much work and pride our equipment team puts into it. He was really beating himself up about having to burn a timeout for the shoe situation. I told him, 'Hey, man, next play. It's all right, let it go.' I'll never have a shortage of shoes, that's for sure."
Hurts was on fire in the victory
Despite the footwear hiccup, Hurts had a fantastic game, completing 16 of 20 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 37 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
As the NFL season continues, it will be interesting to see if Hurts' bold footwear choice inspires a trend among his fellow players.
