On Sunday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys nearly pulled off a remarkable comeback, rallying from a 17-point deficit against the San Francisco 49ers.
While the final score didn't go their way, the Cowboys' performance revealed promising developments-particularly the connection between quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Despite this progress, several persistent issues continue to weigh on the Cowboys' offense.
Lamb's standout performance highlights offense's potential
CeeDee Lamb was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult night for Dallas, catching 13 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
A large part of Lamb's yardage came during a dynamic fourth quarter, where he recorded 92 yards and energized the Cowboys' late-game push.
Following the game, Lamb shared mixed emotions, expressing frustration over the loss but also optimism about the offense's progress.
"We're about to get this thing rolling, for sure," Lamb said, underscoring the importance of maintaining momentum rather than falling into the season's previous up-and-down rhythm.
The Cowboys' offense has faced several challenges this season, particularly with a struggling run game and concerns over pass protection.
Prescott's two-interception performance against the 49ers highlighted his inconsistency, bringing his interception count to eight for the season-nearly equaling the nine he threw in all of 2023. Lamb acknowledged the impact of these turnovers but stressed that both Prescott and the receiving corps share the responsibility, noting the need for receivers to be more physical in their routes to reduce interception risks.
"There are plenty of ways you can avoid an interception," Lamb noted.
"And on both parties...we have to be more physical at the top of the route."
Lamb's comments reflect recent criticisms from former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, who also pointed out the need for Dallas receivers to show more toughness in their route running.
Despite the loss, Lamb's strong performance offers hope that the Cowboys can correct their course. Although many issues that have plagued Dallas throughout the season were evident in this matchup, Lamb remains confident the team can turn things around.
"We'll be alright; we'll bounce back," he stated, encouraging his teammates to learn from the loss and focus on building consistency in the games ahead.
